Jack Charlton "Big
Jack", as he is affectionately known throughout the game of football,
is a soccer legend. Outspoken, though not by many, fearless in defence
and no respecter of authority, Jack influenced the game in a career which
spanned decades.
A member of the England World Cup-winning team in 1966, he went on to
greater fame as Manager of the Republic of Ireland team in 1986.
Jacks career started in his native North East at Ashington, but
he signed for Leeds Utd in 1952 and spent. 21 years with the club, scoring
70 League goals for them - a rare total for a centre half.
He managed Middlesbrough from 1973-77, guiding them to the 74 Second
Division Championship by a record margin of 15 points. He then managed
Sheffield Wednesday from 1977-83 and Newcastle from 1984-85.
He won 35 caps for England, playing alongside his illustrious brother
Bobby, better known to Jack as "Wor Kid".
In 1988 he took Ireland to the European Championship Finals in Germany
and the 1990 World Cup Finals in Italy where they were beaten by the home
team after reaching the Quarter Finals.
They had their revenge over the Italians four years later by beating them
1-0 in the World Cup in America. They reached the second round before
being beaten by Holland.
Jack was made a Freeman of Dublin in 1994 to honour the credit he had
brought to the national side.
He resigned in 1995 and now concentrates on his many after dinner engagements
where he is reckoned to be one of the finest sporting raconteurs in the
country.
His face is still a familiar addition to the television scene and his
powerful motivational speeches are in demand at company seminars nationwide.
*Other football honours include FA Cup; League Cup; Fairs Cup and League
Championship Winners Medals with Leeds and Footballer of the Year
Award in 1967.

positions include Manchester United, Chelsea, QPR, Derby County, Oporto,
Wolves, Aston Villa and Scotland, In fact, he claims to have had more
clubs than Jack Nicklaus!

Derek Hatton Talk
Radio's morning phone-in presenter Derek Hatton has become one of the
countrys most popular after dinner speakers with his repertoire
of highly amusing stories, culminating in an optional and entertaining
question and answer session.
Corporate business, conference organisers and celebrity dinners at golf
clubs have increasingly used Dereks services. Recent engagements
have taken him as far as Dubai and Ireland and to the Top Hole Business
Club in the House of Commons.
He first achieved major publicity after his election to Liverpool City
Council in 1979 and quickly became the well known voice of Liverpool on
a variety of issues, especially after becoming deputy leader in 1983.
During his time in office, he appeared regularly on tv, not only across
the table from Margaret Thatcher and most of her cabinet, but also Neil
Kinnock and much of the leadership of the Labour Party. He was a regular
on the likes of Wogan, Jonathan Ross, Question Time, Face the Press and
many more. Whilst Derek recalls amusing stories from this period, he no
longer holds any party political allegiances and his after-dinner presentations
are non-political.
Derek emerged as a highly successful media personality, regularly appearing
on nearly every chat show and quiz show on radio and tv. He has had
his own successful phone-in programme on Century Radio.
He is still adept at debating and is often invited to take part in both
Oxford and Cambridge Debating Societies. He regularly appears in charity
football matches and golf days and is a fanatical Everton supporter.
He has presented "On the Line" - a widely acclaimed BBC 2 sports investigative
programme - in which he doubled the viewing figures. A BBC documentary
screened his life story in 1996 and he has taken part in a weekly reporting
spot for Granada TVs "Up Front" programme.
He now also presents his own very popular daily phone-in programme on
Century radio - "The Degsy Debate."
