Celebrity Speakers

Jack Charlton

"Big Jack", as he is affectionately known throughout the game of football, is a soccer legend. Outspoken, though not by many, fearless in defence and no respecter of authority, Jack influenced the game in a career which spanned decades.

A member of the England World Cup-winning team in 1966, he went on to greater fame as Manager of the Republic of Ireland team in 1986.

Jack’s career started in his native North East at Ashington, but he signed for Leeds Utd in 1952 and spent. 21 years with the club, scoring 70 League goals for them - a rare total for a centre half.

He managed Middlesbrough from 1973-77, guiding them to the ‘74 Second Division Championship by a record margin of 15 points. He then managed Sheffield Wednesday from 1977-83 and Newcastle from 1984-85.

He won 35 caps for England, playing alongside his illustrious brother Bobby, better known to Jack as "Wor Kid".

In 1988 he took Ireland to the European Championship Finals in Germany and the 1990 World Cup Finals in Italy where they were beaten by the home team after reaching the Quarter Finals.

They had their revenge over the Italians four years later by beating them 1-0 in the World Cup in America. They reached the second round before being beaten by Holland.

Jack was made a Freeman of Dublin in 1994 to honour the credit he had brought to the national side.

He resigned in 1995 and now concentrates on his many after dinner engagements where he is reckoned to be one of the finest sporting raconteurs in the country.

His face is still a familiar addition to the television scene and his powerful motivational speeches are in demand at company seminars nationwide.

*Other football honours include FA Cup; League Cup; Fairs Cup and League Championship Winner’s Medals with Leeds and Footballer of the Year Award in 1967.

Tommy Docherty

If laughter is the best medicine, there’s only one Doc who can prescribe an evening full of fun and entertainment and that' s the one and only Tommy Docherty - soccer legend and King of the One Liners.

The fast-talking, wisecracking Glaswegian is a stalwart of the After-Dinner circuit and is known throughout the country as THE DOC.

His views on the game are constantly sought by radio, tv and the newspapers. Few others have his track record in the game - his previous managerial positions include Manchester United, Chelsea, QPR, Derby County, Oporto, Wolves, Aston Villa and Scotland, In fact, he claims to have had more clubs than Jack Nicklaus!

Among his many honours are 25 caps for Scotland, 2 World Cup appearances as Captain and manager of the Scottish side, Cup Final and League Cup wins - and taking Chelsea and Man Utd to Division One in ‘63 and ‘74 respectively.

As a player, he starred for Preston North End, Celtic and Arsenal.

Nowadays, he is in great demand as a celebrity speaker at many events from Multinational Company Conference Dinners, to Personal Appearances, Sportsman’s Dinners and Trade and Industry Association Dinners.

Professional Speakers

John Welch

It was after a dinner at Shrigley Hall In Cheshire when TV Personality Martyn Lewis said to John Welch: "You are the best After Dinner Speaker I have ever heard".

This is just one of the many accolades that John has received from the celebrities and clients who have heard him speak.

Name any type of function - whether it be a large formal banquet, sales conference, sportsman’s dinner, corporate dinner or golf day - John has spoken at all these types of events.

Not everyone, whether a top businessman or a even politician can be expected to have the talents of a witty and entertaining After Dinner Speaker, but John is well proven to have all those attributes, in addition to which, his material is clean, topical and extremely funny.

Always fresh and highly entertaining John's timing and delivery are acknowledged by his fellow professionals to be of the best.

Having been on the after dinner circuit for over 15 years, he is now firmly established as one of the U.K.’s top ten speakers and has travelled extensively abroad, speaking at dinners in Dubai, Qatar, Bahrain, Spain, Holland and Germany.

The list of companies who have used his services reads like the FT Index and includes Shell UK; Lloyds; Barclays; IBM; TNT; Courtaulds; British Gas; Powergen; Telecom; RAC; Tarmac; McAlpine; Canon; Ford, Rover; Volvo; Mercedes; Scania; British Steel; Securicor; BOC; Girobank; Eagle Star; Bass; Nestle UK; AXA Equity and Law; Lombard and National Tyres.

His background as a non-commissioned officer in the Coldstream Guards is reflected in his commanding style and excellent delivery.

John’s great love is golf and he is a past Captain of his golf club in Worcester. He comes highly recommended by the PGA and has been the guest speaker at the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai and the Awali Golf Club in Bahrain.

Having spoken at many Round Table, Rotary and Masonic functions, he is equally at home on the sporting scene. At one Premier League Club, he recently made his 13th appearance.

So why take a chance on your next dinner? Put it in the safe hands of a true professional and have your audience rolling with laughter with one of the best speakers on the circuit.

Derek Hatton

Talk Radio's morning phone-in presenter Derek Hatton has become one of the country’s most popular after dinner speakers with his repertoire of highly amusing stories, culminating in an optional and entertaining question and answer session.

Corporate business, conference organisers and celebrity dinners at golf clubs have increasingly used Derek’s services. Recent engagements have taken him as far as Dubai and Ireland and to the Top Hole Business Club in the House of Commons.

He first achieved major publicity after his election to Liverpool City Council in 1979 and quickly became the well known voice of Liverpool on a variety of issues, especially after becoming deputy leader in 1983.

During his time in office, he appeared regularly on tv, not only across the table from Margaret Thatcher and most of her cabinet, but also Neil Kinnock and much of the leadership of the Labour Party. He was a regular on the likes of Wogan, Jonathan Ross, Question Time, Face the Press and many more. Whilst Derek recalls amusing stories from this period, he no longer holds any party political allegiances and his after-dinner presentations are non-political.

Derek emerged as a highly successful media personality, regularly appearing on nearly every chat show and quiz show on radio and tv. He has had  his own successful phone-in programme on Century Radio.

He is still adept at debating and is often invited to take part in both Oxford and Cambridge Debating Societies. He regularly appears in charity football matches and golf days and is a fanatical Everton supporter.

He has presented "On the Line" - a widely acclaimed BBC 2 sports investigative programme - in which he doubled the viewing figures. A BBC documentary screened his life story in 1996 and he has taken part in a weekly reporting spot for Granada TV’s "Up Front" programme.

He now also presents his own very popular daily phone-in programme on Century radio - "The Degsy Debate."
